Stocked in cherry, this Tennessee flint lock longrifle is .50 caliber with a 41-1/2" straight octagon barrel. The Dixie Gun Works Ashmore flintlock and barrel are both finished to a dark brown. Assembled from a Dixie Gun Works kit all the stampings on the barrel have been neatly removed. Used, the lock sparks well and the bore has been well maintained. Weight is 9.2 pounds, and the trigger reach is 13-3/4". The rifle balances just forward of the point where the ramrod enters the stock.

The straight octagon barrel is 41-1/4" in length, for use as a handy hunting rifle. The .50 caliber bore is rifled with a slow twist for a patched round ball. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Traditional sights are mounted on the barrel. The semi-buckhorn rear sight is located 10" forward of the breech while the nickel silver blade front sight is located 2-3/8" behind the muzzle.

The classic slender Tennessee buttstock has a grease hole drilled and filled with tallow. The curved steel buttplate securely engages the shooter's shoulder. The top view shows the iron buttplate and slim tapered comb of the buttstock. The tang is retained with two tang bolts. The bottom view shows the small iron toeplate that protects this toe, while the butt is on the ground, during loading. The matching iron triggerguard is a correct replica of the hand forged triggerguards, typically used on Tennessee rifles. Two small screws retain the triggerguard in traditional fashion. Made without a ramrod entry pipe, three forward pipes retain the ramrod. The rifle is fitted with a ramrod with a steel tip with 8-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The back view shows the classic Kentucky cheek piece, iron buttplate, and single lock bolt, surrounded by a typical lozenge style Tennessee sideplate.

The flint lock has been browned to match the barrel. The lock works smoothly, with a crisp action, thanks to the fly detent in the tumbler. The double set triggers are adjusted to only fire set or unset. The tiny adjustment screw between the triggers, controls the trigger release pressure, when set. Slowly turn the screw inboard to lighten trigger release, until you find zero release, where the trigger will not stay latched. Back off the screw about one full turn, for safety.

The bore appears to be clean and bright, with crisp rifling. The stock has a few small scattered handling marks. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
